Love To Dance With Lessons in Ramsey
Why do we love to dance?
Many things stimulate our brains and among them are coordinated movements. Consider the thrill some people get from watching car chase scenes in a movie or riding a roller coaster. Scientists aren’t exactly sure why we like movement so much but our brains and our bodies like to move. Perhaps synchronized music, which is pleasing to both our ears and brain or movement, such as dance, may be what entices our senses.
Watch your child when they are in dance class. No matter their age, they will move to the music and completely entrance themselves in it. They tap their feet, snap their fingers and sway back and forth. If they are a beginner they may not know what to do at first but once the music comes on, they will wonder no more. More experienced dancers will lose themselves in the music and the routine. Why? Because our brains like it!
Music and dance are pleasurable activators of our sensory and motor circuits. If you are watching someone dance, your brain’s movement areas activate. You are planning and predicting how a dancer would move based on what you would do. This leads to the pleasure we feel when we see someone execute a dance movement with expert skill. It is seeing an action that your own motor system cannot predict.
Humans like watching others in motion and being in motion themselves. Add music to the mix and you have a rewarding and satisfying action that your brain loves. Music can actually refine your movement skills by improving your timing, coordination, and rhythm. This is how your child learns to dance and why they love to move to the music.
In actuality, we love to dance because it gives our brains pleasure. We can’t put an actual place on it but there is something about the music that accompanies dance and the actual dance itself that brings us joy. Dancing is something that just makes so many of us happy. If you can’t dance (or think you can’t) move anyway. Dancing is great for people of all ages whether you know how to do it or not.
As young ones, we get excited and are happy when we hear music and can move along to it. When you enroll your child in dance class you are opening them up to a whole new world. A world of excitement and joy. They get excited just knowing they are going to dance class. They put on their dancewear and head off to the dance studio with laughter and excitement. They get into class and the music starts and they half -listen to the teacher and half listen to their peers. Regardless of what they are doing when they hit the studio dance floor, they are most likely moving and swaying to the music. They are learning to dance.
